And yet, in a confusing world with many influences, it is a daunting task to know how to best support your teens. In addition – and quite rightly – your teens are seeking their own direction, pushing you away, and sometimes acting in ways that are self-destructive.

The stand-off between teens and adults is unnecessary, but inevitable considering the fact that young people feel unheard and unseen as they leave behind their childhood, while parents feel that their life experiences count for nothing in the eyes of their teens.

Teen Journey is changing that

Teen Journey was inspired by a void that founders Andrew and Ela Rezmer saw in our society. “There are no safe, guided and empowering processes for young people these days. In traditional societies there were specific rituals that challenged young people and helped them to find their purpose and gifts. That is not so in the modern setting.”

As young people face a rapidly changing world and uncertain future, Teen Journey provides an inspirational, experiential 7-day intensive followed by a year-long monthly gathering that continues to support them on their inner journey. As 2009 camp facilitator and therapist Tasha Simms says, “We invite teens to seek their own self-definition…not by doing what we tell them – but by offering experiences, so they can discover who they are.”

In fact, this is the time when parents must take a step back and let other elders of the “village” step in. The elders are gathering together again for a second remarkable year of Teen Journey.

It takes a village to raise a child, which is why Teen Journey's program includes lectures, workshops and various inspiring and informative events for the parents and families of teenagers.

The last day of the summer camp brings all the parents of the teens together for a 3-hour intensive workshop which compliments the work the teens have done all week and helps improve the connection and communication within the family.
